Women are most welcome on TheTOUR

Since our inception, one of the goals has been to provide a welcoming atmosphere for women members of TheTOUR. Our women's committee meets regularly to address specific issues and make recommendations that are then discussed with the managing Partners. We have assembled some facts and frequently asked questions by women considering Tour membership.

Women Demographics and Facts

- Comprise about 10% of membership (29)
- Ages range from 30s to mid 60s
- Average Handicap Index is 18.3 (6.0 is lowest)
- Course yardages played are between 5200-5900 yds.

How competitive are the events?

Playing on the TOUR is much like playing in any golf league. We like to call it low-key competitive. It's a bit more structured than a casual round, but we stress a fun and friendly atmosphere. Everyone is supportive and respectful of the varying skill levels, talents and wealth of knowledge our members have for the game. We play by USGA and TOUR Local rules. Event formats vary each week and include single stroke play, stableford, quotas and team formats. Handicaps are at a full 100%, plus we award gross and net prizes to the entire field.

How do the women compete against the men?

Everyone in the TOUR receives an official USGA handicap index. We handicap all events and include secondary stroke adjustments for front, middle and back tees to properly handicap and equalize the playing field. Last year women members won over $1,200 in prizes.

How good do I have to be?

Our women members have a wide range of handicaps. If you can break 100 on a good day, your skill level is enough to enjoy the club. If you like low gross competition, you’ll find it too. We do not recommend membership for beginners or players exceeding a 30 handicap. We ask that you have some knowledge of the Rules, intermediate skill level and play ready golf.

Who do I play with?

We generally match up players of the same ability, men and women. We will usually pair 2 women per foursome. Sometimes we will make women foursomes in larger fields or upon request. We try not to have women playing as singles with men unless requested. We try to rotate playing partners to keep things fresh, and also like to honor your playing partner requests.

Are any events specifically for women?

We do conduct separate flights for the Women's Match Play and Club Championships. Our women's committee also informs the membership of women's local golfing events and outings. Our women members also support and participate in WGAM (Women's Golf Assoc. of Massachusetts) sponsored tournaments.

Can I try the Tour before I join?

Anyone wishing to try the Tour to see if joining is a good fit are encouraged to come out and play in an event. We will pair you with other tour members in your handicap range who can help answer your questions and guide you through the first event jitters you may be thinking about right now.
